| | Technology is indeed a fascinating quagmire. It brings with it the dichotomy of making us more connected than ever before while diminishing the essence of it.
The convenience of online instant messaging and SMSes is slowly replacing our need to actually meet up with people or at the very least call them up when we interact ; thus eliminating the all important factor of actual human contact. Hearing someone's voice when talking to them over the phone can help solidify the connection between individuals yet even that is now being done less and less.
"Oh! It's someone's birthday, thank you Facebook!" we happily exclaim to ourselves before leaving a message in the other person's profile. It merely helps us satisfy our social obligation of wishing someone on their special day and in turn feel good about ourselves. I'm not saying it's wrong ; it's just that for some people, the sincerity is , to an extent, questionable.
Anyone can be a metaphorical rockstar on an online forum or some other derivative of interaction based around the internet yet can this same person carry a conversation with people in the real world? In some cases , especially when it comes to addiction to these aforementioned interactions, it will inevitably be detrimental to a person's social life.
Now if you'll excuse me ; I'm off to partake in another activity that seems to be losing out in the fight with technology : reading a good book.
